Earlier male image painting

Male body image

This earlier work I painted for the 'I am man' exhibition at Cell art space, Cairns, Queensland to celebrate International mens day 2013 and is related to the October 2014 solo exhibition however here I have started to explore the male gaze which in feminist art explore the objectification of women as subject of art by male artists. This idea among many others has wide implications for which male artists themselves must investigate. I am keen to develop these notions further!

Recent exhibtion

Cell art space
'Mediatations on male body image' series.

Recently I had a solo show at the Cell art space in Lake street, Cairns, Queensland. These works are painted expression of my feeling toward male body image the multiple layered process uses different painting and drawing mediums to reflect the complex interconnected influences be they philosophical, religious, sourced from poplar culture. They help form the basis of an individuals personal view of their own body image for better or worst. The photographs show here were taken by Sandy Edgar a good friend and artist.

Shading exercises

Shading exercises

I like to every now and again go over the very basic techniques. I find it is an excellent way of refocusing my attention at the necessary pace for concentrated work and observation.

Gradual shift in tone.

New start.

I thought first of all I would post just a few drawings I like from the last year or so. I am feeling very energised and am very keen to do some new work. With this blog I felt this would be a good opportunity to share the coming adventure.

I am however rather shy about writing about myself and my work but in doing so hope too sharpen the focus of the concepts and find expression for what I felt is the purpose of my art.
